Kowloon and the New Territories
New Territories
This term generally includes residential areas in Castle Peak, Yuen Long, Shek Kong and Tai Po. With the construction of the new airport, residential developments in Tuen Mun and Tsuen Wan around the Castle Peak area have been subject to heavy speculation, and include numerous large estate complexes popular with local families.
Less congested and more popular with expatriate families are the townhouse and lowrise developments of The Gold Coast in Castle Peak Bay, Hong Lok Yuen in Tai Po, and Fairview Park in Yuen Long.
Tai Po is serviced by the KCR railway with direct connection to the MTR, while the other areas depend more on the minibus or bus services. It is more convenient to have your own transport in these areas.
Sha Tin
Originally a village, this area has been one of major expansion over recent years and now comprises a combination of highrise developments off the highway and Spanish-style townhouses in the hills at Kau To Shan.
Many of the highrise apartments overlook the spectacular Sha Tin racetrack, while the townhouses overlook Tolo Harbour to the northeast or the green of the surrounding hillsides.
Sha Tin is serviced by the KCR railway which connects directly with the MTR to Tsim Sha Tsui or Central.
It is also famous for the Sha Tin New Town Plaza, a huge residential, commercial and shopping development popular with the young, local families.
